Retail - Hadley Center

The Hadley
Center retail development area offers approximately 300,000 square
feet of leasable space within variously sized, interconnected buildings and
out-buildings—from “junior anchors” to “boutique”-sized shops.
Strategically placed out-buildings form an architectural edge along Hanley,
and frame views of internal shopping and pedestrian activity against the
backdrop of store frontage and signage beyond. The architectural look of the
retail buildings large and small takes inspiration from traditional local
commercial building designs while also expressing a contemporary, up-beat,
“hustle and bustle” atmosphere. Buildings feature historic rich red-toned
brick, combined with tastefully colored stucco, colorful metal frame and
glass storefronts, and metal roofing elements. Colorful metal canopies and
awnings protect pedestrian shoppers and
define
the individual shop fronts. Four tower elements accent the retail perimeter, reinforcing
a special sense of destination and arrival for visitors. The same red brick
is also planned for tower walls, with bands of colored metal-frame windows
capped with colored standing seam metal roofs. Parking for shoppers is
provided on landscaped surface lots and in underground parking garages
beneath the junior anchor buildings. A series of berms, trees, and
shrubbery, in conjunction with the out-buildings, reinforces the
architectural edge along Hanley, defines a landscaped pedestrian way from
shop to shop, buffers the pedestrian experience from the effects of heavy
vehicular traffic, and screens the view of surface parking. |
